JOB TITLE: COMMUNITY MANAGER

TERMS: This position is full-time (40 hours/week).

OVERVIEW
Are you uncommon? We’re looking for an exceptional addition to our growing team. In this new role of Community Manager, you will be instrumental to the success of our clients’ community and network initiatives. This position involves working hand-in-hand with Uncommon’s partners to manage the day-to-day activities of dynamic and growing networks of professionals, including designing and executing a broad spectrum of online and offline offerings and, through outstanding member engagement and support, helping to build and nurture strategic connections across our client networks. You will also play an important role in ensuring these networks evolve strategically and sustainably.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious, creative, uber-organized, strategic, people-oriented, and purpose-driven person. We are also looking for a tech-savvy individual who would be excited to develop the networks’ social media potential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Community Manager will be a true utility player, able to work nimbly across multiple  projects while interacting with a wide range of stakeholders. Although responsibilities could shift depending on strategic decisions, the Community Manager can expect the following general categories of work over the course of the year:

Community Management (40%)

  • Work closely with network “ambassadors” to activate them in service of the networks’ strategic goals. Develop and train them on tools to help support their efforts. Develop and execute new ways to grow and strengthen this program;

  • Proactively manage and moderate online community channels (e.g web portal, groups, LinkedIn, Flickr);

  • Develop (conceptualize and write) and distribute a broad range of community engagement materials and presentations across multiple media, including but not limited to:

    • All-network communications (often ghost written for the network directors)

    • Newsletters

    • Portal updates

    • Social media posts

    • Event descriptions and invitations

    • Surveys

    • Presentations, talking points, reports

    • Other communications as needed

    • Support network leadership meetings and other leadership communications;

    • Respond to network member requests and queries in a timely manner;

    • Review, research, update, import, export and maintain member information;

    • Provide support for member events as needed. 


Project Management (40%)

  • Develop project scopes, goals, and objectives, and involving all relevant stakeholders in the process;

  • Develop detailed project plans and budgets, identifying resources needed and performing risk management to minimize project risks;

  • Manage a range of annual or bi-annual projects, including surveys, leadership recruitment, and other projects as needed;

  • Schedule and support quarterly retreats for Community Manger, Uncommon staff, and network manager(s);

  • Develop meeting agendas that can also serve as update reports on active projects;

  • Liaise with companies that host network portals on maintenance and potential enhancements;

  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors as needed;

  • Track and summarize monthly metrics and prepare project status reports by analyzing and summarizing information and trends;

  • Collaborate with Uncommon’s partners on year-end network reports.

Special Projects (20%)

  • Support Uncommon clients on other projects at the discretion of the partners and per available capacity.
     

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, and EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience managing diverse global communities across online and offline channels;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels within and outside of the firm;

  • Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills.

  • Strong technical skills, including fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and web-based tools (e.g. Toggl, Asana, MailChimp, SurveyMonkey, etc.). Proven ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner.

  • Ability to work independently, and as a member of a team.

  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated commitment to service.

  • Intellectual curiosity and a commitment to professional growth and development.

  • B.A. + 5 years of experience in consulting, communications, marketing, or community engagement preferred.
