Mara has more than fifteen years of professional experience working with domestic and international nonprofit organizations and multi-sectoral alliances. She is passionate about working on new or rapidly expanding initiatives, with a focus on creating strong foundations for effective governance, leadership and management to support organizational and individual learning.
Prior to joining the Uncommon team, Mara was an independent consultant and also served as the Deputy Director of Health Alliance International, a global health organization focused on health systems strengthening and based at the University of Washington. Mara has worked with various global health organizations and networks in the United States and Eastern and Southern Africa, focusing on capacity building, governance, organizational strategy, and management development. She is highly skilled at strengthening teams, bringing people together around a common interest, being the connective tissue between people working in complementary fields.
When she is not leading programs for Uncommon, Mara focuses her passion for people and connectivity on her family and local neighborhood community. She can be hiking or playing trains and baseball with her four-year old son, Caleb, and her husband, Buck.
